Anglia Ruskin University

Welcome to Anglia Ruskin University, the only UK university to have been named a global ‘rising star’ by consultants Firetail. We’ve also been named one of the top 40 institutions in the UK, and one of the top 350 in the world, in the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings.

We were founded in 1858 as the Cambridge School of Art, and to us, all our students are rising stars, which is why we give you the best support we can from the start and it’s why we’re ranked in the Top 3 in the UK for our orientation for new international students (Autumn 2013 International Student Barometer). From our teaching excellence (we’re ranked in the top 20 universities for teaching excellence in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017) to our award-winning student support and employability teams, we’re working as one to help you get the most out of your experience at Anglia Ruskin. As a result, our students rate us highly for teaching, personal development and assessment and feedback.

Many of our courses are recognised by industry and a large number are professionally accredited. Businesses come back to us for interns, training, research and collaborative programmes and our programmes are often designed in conjunction with employers.

We’ve invested £100 million in our facilities over the last five years and plan to invest a further £91 million over the next five years, so you’ll be learning in state-of-the-art environments as well as enjoying great recreational facilities.

Anglia Ruskin University: Campuses

We have two campuses, one in the world-famous and historic city of Cambridge, the other in the modern growing city of Chelmsford. Both are less than an hour from London, both are safe, easy to get around and perfect for living in a community of students.

In Cambridge you can find a network of medieval streets with theatres, museums, galleries, music venues, craft markets, cafés and tiny secondhand bookshops. Market Square, with its thriving outdoor market can trace its roots back to the Middle Ages and is ideal for an afternoon stroll.

Chelmsford is one of England’s newest cities and was voted one of the top ten places to live in the UK in a quality of life survey. Although modern, Chelmsford has a rich history as one of the first Roman settlements in Britain. Although just 35 minutes away from London by train, in its serene location by the river, our Chelmsford campus is a great place to be.

The Students’ Union at both campuses organises entertainment from bar nights to live music as well as around 120 clubs and societies which are open to all our students. Then of course, there’s sport! We have a proud tradition of sporting success from judo to distance running and you’ll find plenty of opportunities to get involved in many sports whether you study at Cambridge or Chelmsford and you can also make use of our on-campus gyms and other facilities.

Anglia Ruskin University: Learning Facilities

We’ve invested £122 million in our campuses in recent years and plan to invest a further £91 million over the next five years. So you’ll be learning using multi-million pound facilities: from forensic laboratories to multimedia and recording studios; mock hospital wards to three university libraries open to you 24 hours during term time.

Additional learning facilities include:

  • Harvard-style lecture theatres
  • Art studios, photography dark rooms, print workshops
  • Biomedical science superlab
  • Psychology laboratories
  • Music studios with Steinberg piano
  • TV studio
  • …and much more

At Anglia Ruskin we aim to develop your skills as well as your knowledge, so assessments could include presentations; case studies; laboratory work; studio work; group projects – as well as exams. You’ll spend less time in the classroom than you might be used to, but will have plenty of assignments to keep you busy and which will be designed to help you explore the subject and put some of the theory into practice.
