Specialisations and content

Are you interested in classical as well as modern literary works? Then a Masters degree in Literature is the perfect way for you to learn more about German, English and American Literature. Poetry, drama, novels and short stories – each of these major forms have their own unique structure, a story and characters which you will explore.

A Master of Literature offers a vast variety of specialisations, such as creative writing, children’s literature, or programmes in a certain national literature. You will come across some of these subjects in modern philosophy, semiotics, various linguistic and literary theories, such as the theory of aesthetic reader’s response, which studies the mechanisms of perception.

Because every university or college handles the entry requirements differently, you should check them directly at the college/university of your interest. A prerequisite for a Master of Literature is a Bachelors degree in a subject related to Philology.
