Master Economics of Globalisation and European Integration at University of Antwerp

This Erasmus Mundus programme is organised by a consortium of ten partner universities in four different continents. The programme has a workload of 60 ECTS credits, is full-time and runs over 12 months. It is taught by staff of the ten partner institutions. During the year students move as a group to three different universities in three different countries. Our students learn how to work in an international context and to appreciate diversity and multiculturalism.

During the first term the emphasis lies on the basic disciplines required for a solid foundation in economics: advanced microeconomics, advanced macroeconomics and applied econometrics. During the second and third terms students deepen their knowledge in the specific areas of the programme: economics of European integration, open-economy macroeconomics, economics of globalisation, and international trade (theory and policy). This is complemented by at least two optional courses. Students end the programme by writing a dissertation, which is a very important component of this Master’s degree.

As the programme is taught in English, students significantly improve their knowledge of English by the end of the year. They are well prepared to do research in an international environment and to work professionally and independently.

Start: September 2019

Application deadline:

EE national 15 April 2019
Non-EEA national 15 February 2019

Master Economics of Globalisation and European Integration at University of Antwerp: Admission

To be admitted, you must hold a Master’s degree in Economics or Applied Economics and have attained good study results. If you have a four-year academic Bachelor’s degree, you can exceptionally be admitted provided you have attended additional courses or training and/or hold relevant professional experience. If you obtained your degree under the European Bologna system you must hold a Master’s degree. Applicants with a three-year Bachelor’s degree do not qualify for admission to this Master’s programme.

In addition, you must be fluent in English, be motivated to study in an international environment, and have a genuine aptitude for economic research.

If you have studied at one of the partner universities you will demonstrate your English proficiency to the local academic coordinator. If you are a student from another university, you should submit proof of proficiency in English.

If you are a student from any of the European partner universities you apply for the Master’s degree EGEI at your home university. You will be interviewed by the local coordinator, who will then decide whether you meet the admission criteria.

Non-European students and European students from non-partner universities can apply for the Master’s degree EGEI at any university in the consortium by submitting an application file.

There are two application rounds. The deadline to apply for an Erasmus+ student scholarship for the academic year 2018-2019 is 31 December 2017. The Erasmus+ application round starts in October 2017. The deadline for students who apply for admission without an Erasmus+ student scholarship is 15 June 2018.

Why this university?

Let our students tell you why!

Blake Alexander Simmons (USA) - M.Sc. in Biology – Biodiversity: Conservation and Restoration
“This study programme can be considered as pretty international, since almost half of my fellow students are from abroad. I think it’s a great enrichment if you have so much different knowledge and many points of view around. This study experience will certainly make me a better biologist.”

Cyril France (Ghana) - M.Sc. in Development Evaluation and Management
“The study programme is well structured and followed by students from all over the world, which brings a lot of diversity in the classroom.”

Julia Port (Germany) – M.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences: Infectious and Tropical Diseases
“Compared to other European programmes on infectious and tropical diseases, UAntwerp offers courses on broader subject areas such as public health, healthcare, statistics and epidemiology.”

Juliana Pinheiro Maia (Brazil) - M.Sc. in Applied Economic Sciences: Business Administration
“The cases we cover are international and not only considered from a European point of view. The teaching level is very high and the system itself is tough, since there is only one exam at the end of each term.”

Phui San Cheong (Malaysia) – M.Sc. in Computer Science: Computer Networks and Distributed Systems
“The course is quite challenging. The Lecturers expect a lot from the students, so it’s important that you have the required academic background before starting your studies here.”

Slaviša Milovanovi? (Serbia) – M.Sc. in Physics
“UAntwerp has one of the most productive research groups and finest experts.”

Zeynep Savran (Turkey) – M.Sc. in Applied Economic Sciences: Economic Policy
“The thing I like the most in Belgium is how respectful people are for each other, regardless religion or political ideology, for instance. They have respect for diversity, I would say.”
