What is an environmental engineer?
Everybody has an opinion on the subject. A lot of people talk about it. But who turns words into action? With a master of science in engineering degree in Environmental Technology you could restore life to a dead lake and create new sustainable solutions for the industry.

As a master student you can specialise in one of two areas: Aquatic Environment or Eco-efficient Engineering.

Programme structure

This is a two-year master programme. To study a master degree in Environmental Technology you must have a relevant bachelor degree (three years of previous study at university level).

At the master programme you choose an academic profile; the area in which you want to specialise.

Career opportunities

The Danish environmental sector experiences an increasing demand for employees with knowledge of both environmental biology and environmental chemistry as well as of technological solutions. Danish companies also undertake many environmental tasks abroad.

With a master degree you will be qualified for jobs as, for example:

  • Project worker or manager in consulting engineering companies
  • Consultant in local and regional governments
  • Caseworker in public administration
  • Industrial engineer or manager in public utility undertakings (e.g. water and sewer)
  • Engineer at environmental or development departments.

You could, for example, work in:

  • Restoration of streams
  • Regeneration of wet meadows in river valleys
  • Design of wastewater plants
  • Waste management
  • Environment assessment
  • Planning of urban traffic infrastructure
  • Development of environmentally efficient technologies
  • Assessment of environmental impact of off-site construction work
  • Implementation and management of environmental installations
  • Assessment of strategic and market ventures
  • University research or industrial research.

Entry requirements

Below you can read about the entry requirements for the master programme MSc in Engineering (Environmental Technology)

  1. A bachelor's degree in environmental engineering with a solid knowledge of basic ecology and fundamental chemistry.
    Applicants with a similar bachelor’s degree if their academic qualifications correspond with the bachelor degree mentioned above.
    Additional requirements may apply for the different profiles of the masters programme.
