Master International Economics and Finance at Newcastle University Business School

Our International Economics and Finance MSc has been designed to meet the demand for a specialist financial and economic course.  It consists of two stages: a taught component and a research dissertation.

You will gain an international perspective in the role of finance and of monetary policy, and learn how to understand and analyse international finance markets, the international trading system and the role played by key supranational institutions like the IMF and WTO.

The behaviour of public and private sector organisations is significantly influenced by international economic developments in both financial and goods markets.  Individuals with a comprehensive understanding of economic and financial theory and their policy dimensions within an open economy context are therefore in demand in the highly competitive employment market.

You will develop a comprehensive set of technical and quantitative skills that are highly regarded in the private sector.

The course is excellent preparation for work in multinational enterprises in roles dealing with exporting or foreign investment decisions, foreign exchange risk management, portfolio fund management, financial services, banking, regulatory bodies, corporate finance and consultancy. It also provides preliminary training if you are wishing to pursue further research in view of a career in research institutions or central banks.

Every year practitioners from the world of finance and business are invited to talk to our students as guest speakers, offering insights into specific career paths and job roles. You will interact with these experts to identify career opportunities and develop strategies on how to progress in your career.
