Masters International Trade, Strategy and Operations at WMG, University of Warwick

Accredited by the Institute of Export, the MSc in International Trade, Strategy and Operations is designed to deliver a thorough knowledge and understanding of the management and operational requirements necessary to trade successfully in international markets. The programme is heavily focused on the application of theory into practice and how the skills developed throughout your studies will be used to best advantage in a professional environment.

 

The course will provide

A comprehensive overview of how international companies operate. You will develop a broad set of skills which will enable your involvement in the whole business process from initial engagement with a new market right through to the delivery of a product or service. You will develop the capability to identify business options and define business winning propositions, as well as learning to manage, lead change and improve operational and supply chain processes within international businesses.

Masters International Trade, Strategy and Operations at WMG, University of Warwick: Curriculum

You are required to pass nine modules in total for this MSc course.
 

Core Modules

 

Elective modules

You must choose 3 elective modules from the following list:

 

 

Project

The project is worth 50% of the final grade and supports you in developing your personal research skills. Work on your project runs concurrently with your module work.

You are expected to devote an appropriate portion of your time and intellectual effort to the project during the course i.e. approximately 900 hours or 6 months study.

For International Trade, Strategy and Operations the project should relate to one or more of the following aspects of trading in an international context:

 

  • International sales and marketing
  • Transport, logistics, supply chain and customs compliance
  • Financial management
  • Legal aspects of international trade
  • Business management and trade strategy
  • Operations and service management

 

Learning Style

The taught component of the course is a mixture of traditional lectured material, syndicate/group work, large-scale delivery, practical work, online learning and forum activities. Module leaders are experts in their fields and are supported by external speakers working in organisations at the forefront of their fields.

Masters International Trade, Strategy and Operations at WMG, University of Warwick: Career

This programme will prepare graduates to take on a senior role within a company that trades internationally. The breadth of the programme enables students to gain a clear overview of all the elements of international trade whilst giving the opportunity to also focus or specialise on a particular aspect of interest to the individual. The programme opens up a range of career options including transportation and logistics; customs and the legal aspects of international business; business development, relationship management and negotiation; implementation of strategy. The onus on the practical application of theory means graduates will be in the advantageous position of being able to take on a useful professional role right from the outset, thus maximising employment prospects.

 

To give some examples, recent ITSO graduates have gone into roles and companies such as: Assan Aluminyum, China Construction Bank, Samskip, Silicon Markets, Yilport Holding Inc., CGI,  and Le Vendangeur.

Masters International Trade, Strategy and Operations at WMG, University of Warwick: Admission Requirements

In order to meet our academic entry requirement, you should have obtained the equivalent of a UK first or second class honours degree. Students may have already studied business related degrees, but this course is also very much open to those with other academic backgrounds.

To make an application to a WMG Masters courses, applications must be made online at www.warwick.ac.uk/go/wmgmasters/entry.

 

You can apply now, even if you do not yet have all the necessary documents ready; if necessary we will make you a conditional offer until you provide them.

 

You will need to provide:

  • A completed application form & application fee.
  • A Personal Statement, which can be included in the online application.
  • A transcript of marks awarded so far (if you are currently studying) OR a final transcript / degree certificate* (if you have completed your studies).
  • English test result (if applicable)
  • One reference. If you completed studies less than 2 years ago, this should be an academic reference.

Funding Opportunities

At WMG, we will be awarding over £750,000 in scholarships and bursaries to students commencing study on our full-time MSc programmes in October 2019.

 

WMG Excellence Scholarship


WMG Excellence Scholarships are available on a competitive basis. These scholarships will award students between 25% - 50% tuition fee discount.

 

Awards will be based on past academic achievement, professional experience, extracurricular activities, reasons for study, and your vision for the future. Students are required to complete a scholarship application in order to be considered for the WMG Excellence Scholarships. Applications will close in April 2019.
