Robotics and Computer Engineering at University of Tartu

Master’s programme in Robotics and Computer Engineering trains highly qualified roboticists, computer and space engineers. The programme provides broad knowledge in the field of robotics, computer engineering or space technology.
Graduates can work in enterprises or research and development centres connected to their field of study.

 

Why study Robotics and Computer Engineering?
 

  • The University of Tartu belongs to the TOP 1.2% of the world's best universities.
     
  • Studies are conducted in collaboration with research groups: students have an opportunity to build their own satellite! Student satellite EstCube-2 will be launched in 2018 while the first one, EstCube-1, launched in 2013, made Estonia the 41st space nation.
     
  • Practical approach: students can work for a semester for a company or research group in their chosen field. Students can also replace a study module with a semester abroad either studying at another university or working for a research company. Students can also take management and economy courses to be able start their own business.
     
  • Modern buildings and laboratories: study building Physicum was opened in 2014 and its 13000 square metres provides contemporary facilities for research in physics, materials science and nanotechnology.
     
  • Students obtain knowledge of both hardware and software.
     
  • Great scholarship opportunities: most students receive a tuition-waiver scholarship, monthly stipends also available

Robotics and Computer Engineering at University of Tartu: Course Content

Curriculum structure: 120 ECTS

Core module (24 ECTS):

  • Data Analysis and Computational Methods with MATLAB, Data
  • Acquisition and Signal Processing, Digital Image Processing, Distributed Systems, Technical Graphics, Computational Physics


Seminar module (12 ECTS):

  • Master's Seminar
  • Practical Training
  • Teaching Practice


Specialisation module (24 ECTS) - choice of 3 modules:

  • Robotics (24 ECTS)
  • Computer Engineering (24 ECTS)
  • Space Technology (24 ECTS)


Elective module (24 ECTS) choice of 4 modules:

  • Internship (24 ECTS)
  • Leadership module (24 ECTS)
  • Business module (24 ECTS)
  • Semester abroad (24 ECTS) - can be used to replace any specialisation or elective module


Optional courses (6 ECTS) - all courses available at the university

Master's thesis (30 ECTS)

Robotics and Computer Engineering at University of Tartu: Career

Robotics and Computer Engineering graduates find work in high tech companies, telecommunication companies, computer companies, software companies, aerospace technology companies, public administration etc. Since the studies are in English, it is possible to work everywhere in the world. Graduates can work as engineers (e.g. computer and systems engineers), hardware and software architects, system analysts, but also as quality, technology and purchasing managers. Graduates can also continue their studies at PhD level in physics, engineering and technology or informatics.

Robotics and Computer Engineering at University of Tartu: Admission

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in information technology, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science, mechanic engineering, software engineering, computer engineering, information systems or a related field.
  • Prerequisite courses in the following fields, in total for the value of 45 ECTS:
  • Higher mathematics (6 ECTS), physics (6 ECTS), programming (6 ECTS) and computer hardware (3 ECTS);
  • Courses in electronics, computer engineering, computer technology or informatics - minimum for the value of 24 ECTS;
  • English language proficiency (IELTS - 5.5; TOEFL - 75)
  • Motivation letter
