5 Must-see movies about student/college life

These five crazy stories are very different from each other and most probably -from your own story, as well. The reason is that every student's life is unique. But you could also find some similarities in the setting - they are all about young people communities, where every member has their special roles. Take a look at the summaries and find out which college movie will attract your attention.

The Geographer Drank His Globe Away (2013)

"A person without a degree in education" and any interest or understanding of globes and maps is the new geography teacher in a Russian provincial town.   Viktor Sluzhkin has no money, no other job options and no approach to students. And when everything seems to be hopeless and tragic, he decides to go with his class on a rafting adventure, which eventually brings back the purpose of living. This gripping movie directed by Aleksandr Veledinsky faces problems like the relations between students and their teacher and much more...

The Wave (2008)

"You all think that a dictatorship in Germany is no more possible?", asks school teacher Wegner, and everyone in class answers - that there is no way this can happen nowadays. And so, the teacher's experiment begins and all those students who just responded negatively get involved. A new society is quickly born and it sweeps over the school like a wave. All members start wearing white shirts, call themselves "The Wave" and even invent their sign and print it all around the town. How will this all end up and do "the wave" actually realize itself as such? It turns out that education is much more than the subjects we learn, but also the whole environment we live in for a certain period of our lives.

Dead Poets Society (1989)

Robin Williams is in the role of John Keating - an English teacher in a prestigious and conservative men's high school - Welton Academy in the United States. At the first day of classes in their last school year students meet the new teacher. Being Welton alumni himself, the new teacher isn't a good fit for the institution and doesn't share its values, which include students being submissive and not individuals. Keating encourages thinking out of the box and looking at life from different perspectives. His behaviour and the boys' excitement get noticed by the principal, which then causes series of troubles. Despite them, the young people succeed to go out of their shells and discover their potentials.

Good Will Hunting (1997)

Good Will Hunting is another American classic when it comes to school movies and it also stars Robin Williams as our previous suggestion. This time, the action takes place at one of the leading US universities - MIT. A maths professor asks students to help him with solving a mathematical problem but no one can do it. Except of Will Hunting, of course, who isn't actually studying, but moping the floors at the university and doing some construction work in the meantime. However, it turns out that he is a mathematical genius who has plenty of personal problems, which he needs to figure out...

Rushmore (1998)

"I think you just got to find something you love to do and then do it for the rest of your life. For me, it's going to Rushmore", says Max Fisher. He is "one of the worst students", but also the captain of every student club in Rushmore - from the fencing team to the beekeeping society. Although, Max fails with grades and his performance isn't the best, he seems not to believe in reality but in his dreams. Among them is his love for the English teacher Rosemary, who directly asks the student if he has ever thought about their age difference. However, Max is a believer and maybe that's why you empathize and sympathize with the guy when you watch this great Wes Anderson's comedy-drama.
