Now more than ever, the worlds needs leaders with a critical, global mindset. With your Master’s degree in Business Economics, you can change the game in just one year. At UAntwerp, you’ll be part of an inclusive and forward-thinking university that scores well in academic rankings. Your professors’ knowledge and personal approach will ensure you receive the highest quality of education. Develop a profound insight in business, tailor the programme to your own interests by choosing one of the 8 majors and lay the foundations for your future!
With this Master’s programme, we offer a methodologically rigorous and effective approach to analysing business economics issues, while also encouraging ethical reflection on the position of the manager in society, on changes in the corporate world and on the imperative of sustainability in today’s globalised economy. The programme gives you a lot of freedom to shape your curriculum by combining a major and minor of your choice. This allows you to specialise and tailor the programme to your personal interests.

You can choose from the following domains: Accounting, Data Science, Digital Organisation Finance, Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, International Business, Marketing Strategy and Organisation. Besides a major and a minor, you also take up four compulsory courses that will improve your ability to recognise and resolve business economics issues: Ethical and Sustainable Business, International Consulting Project, Leadership Development and Strategic Management.
Finally, you will be expected to complete a Master’s Thesis Portfolio, which includes a course in Research Methods and a Master’s Thesis. This is the crown piece of an academic Master’s curriculum. Your thesis demonstrates your in-depth knowledge of the foundations, structures and methodologies underpinning the Business Economics programme.
The faculty’s AACSB and EFMD programme accreditations illustrate high-quality teaching and research. UAntwerp is also the only Flemish University that is mentioned in the Financial Times European Business Schools Ranking 2021, being placed 93rd. The programme has been ranked 88th in the Financial Times Master in Management ranking 2022, and has obtained 7th place worldwide in terms of ‘value for money’.

If you have a university level Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics, Master’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent, you are eligible to start the programme. This degree should be an academic programme. You should have a thorough command of intermediate micro- and macroeconomics, quantitative research methods, mathematics, statistics, financial and management accounting, finance, marketing and management. Since the programme is taught in English, candidates with a prior degree issued outside Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English. They can do so by submitting a language certificate showing their TOEFL, IELTS or ITACE results (the level required can be checked on: www.uantwerpen.be/admission). Students from the United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are exempt from providing a language certificate.
Please note that the Board of Admission may still ask for additional proof of proficiency in English. A GMAT/GRE test result is to be included in the application. You should obtain an overall GMAT score of 600 or higher. Alternatively, a GRE can be submitted with a minimum score of 157 on quantitative and verbal reasoning. Students are exempt from submitting a GMAT/GRE test result if they have obtained their (business) economics degree at one of the following institutions: a Belgian university, a university ranked in the global top 400 in the most recent edition of THE or QS World Ranking, one of the faculty’s exchange partners or a university with an AACSB, EFMD or EQUIS accreditation.

EEA students and non-EEA students with a permanent residence in Belgium can look for employment in Belgium and work as a self-employed person in the same way as Belgian citizens.
Search year
Until recently, as a non-EEA student holding a right of residence in Belgium based on your studies, you had to obtain a different residence permit if you wanted to stay in Belgium after graduating. However, in March 2021, the Council of Ministers passed a motion that non-European students studying abroad in Belgium will have 12 months to find work or start a company in Belgium, following the completion of their studies. The search year (or orientation year) is expected to come into legislated effect in October 2021, but applications can be send in as of 15 August 2021.
For more information, please consult our general page about permits or visit the official website of the Belgian government.
