Master Applied Economic Sciences: Economic Policy at University of Antwerp

Policy-making in private enterprises, public organisations and governments requires rigorous economic analysis. What resources are available to perform these analyses? What are the implications of these policies for the different stakeholders? In the programme you will gain a better understanding of the background of political decision-making and you will learn to assess the impact of economic decisions on strategic issues in governments, businesses and households. Upon graduation you’ll have the expertise to deal with a wide range of economic problems faced by policymakers. You will have a better understanding of the background of political decision-making and you’ll be able to assess the impact of economic decisions on strategic issues. Careers are found in consultancy, banking and insurance sectors as well as in industrial and commercial corporations. Graduates are often employed by governments, both at national and international levels. Another career path is research.

Master Applied Economic Sciences: Economic Policy at University of Antwerp: Content

The Master in Applied Economic Sciences: Economic Policy carries a workload of 60 ECTS-credits. This one-year study programme is full-time and runs from the end of September till July. Examinations take place in January and June. Students who do not pass are deferred to the second session of examinations in September.

 

Applied econometrics. The goal of this course is to deepen understanding of the methods and practical use of econometrics so that you can apply these tools to modelling, estimation, inference, and forecasting in the context of real world economic problems.


 
Applied welfare economics. This course highlights the principles of modern applied welfare economics. Students learn to evaluate and interpret welfare economic analyses of social problems.

 

Open-economy macroeconomics. Building on international macroeconomic principles, models and trends, this course zooms in on macroeconomic applications in society.

 

Elective modules
You can choose one of the following modules:
International Economics and Finance, focusing on macroeconomics, international economics and international financial issues; or Economics of Public Policy Issues, stressing aspects of efficiency in the study of significant economic and social problems (e.g., inequality, health care, the labour market, unemployment and so on).

 

Master’s thesis
In the Master’s thesis students demonstrate that they have in-depth knowledge of the foundations, structures and methodologies underlying the programme of Economic Policy.

Masters of Economic Policy are prepared for positions which require them to analyse aspects of economic policy, and guide and influence economic policy decision-making. Such careers are found in consultancy, banking and insurance sectors as well as in industrial and commercial corporations.

Master Applied Economic Sciences: Economic Policy at University of Antwerp: Admission

You need an academic bachelor’s degree in Economics, Economic Policy or equivalent. In-depth knowledge of intermediate microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics is essential.

 

You are required to demonstrate proficiency in English. A GMAT or GRE test score is in some cases mandatory.

 

It is possible to apply while you are in the final year of your academic bachelor programme.

 

The online application module opens on 1 December 2017 and closes on 15 February 2018 (non-EEA students) and 15 April 2018 (EEA-students).
