Biomedical Sciences at Radboud University

The programme provides students with a solid base in research methodology, statistics, and biostatistics, laboratory research and communication skills. Leading scientists in fields ranging from metabolism, membrane transport, neuromuscular disease and inflammation to screening efficacy, clinical interventions and evidence-based medicine are involved in the teaching programme as lecturers and tutors.
 

Biomedical scientists want to minimize the impact of diseases on humans and humankind. Smart, global visionaries are needed who want to solve health care issues in the lab and in the field. Radboud University aims to educate the best biomedical scientists with not just a thorough understanding of the molecular, individual and population aspects of human health and disease, but also with unique areas of expertise.


Health care issues and biomedical research are placed in context. In the programme, links are made between research and patient care (from bench to bedside), and vice versa.


Thanks to the flexibility of designing a personal programme, graduates of the Radboud University’s Master’s programme in Biomedical Sciences will have developed a truly unique expertise in the field of biomedical science. And the intensive internships will guarantee you are prepared to enter the workforce so that you can quickly start to play a vital role in improving human health.

Course Content

Students in this programme can choose from a variety of specialisations:
 

  • Clinical human movement sciences
  • Drug Safety and Toxicology
  • Epidemiology
  • Health Technology Assessment
  • Immunology and host defence
  • Medical Neuroscience
  • Molecular Medicine
  • Free specialisation


The programme allows for ultimate flexibility. whether you want to specialise on the the molecule (2 specializations) the individual (1 specialization) or populations (3 specializations), there is a track thats right for you.
 

Radboud is home to great research institutes, including:
 

  • The Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS)
  • Radboud Institute for Health Sciences (RIHS)
  • The Donders Centre for Neuroscience

 

You will have access to these institutes, with experts that will help you find your focus, and give you the guidance you need in the field that you're passionate about.

Admission

  • A completed Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences or related area
    • You have a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline (as evaluated by the Board of Examiners) and a strong motivation to succeed.
       
  • Your previous education should include
    • Basic understanding of human physiology and major pathophysiologic processes of disease
    • Scientific research performance for at least 3 months
    • Experience with problem-based learning at academic level
       
  • A proficiency in English
    • In order to take part in this programme, you need to have fluency in both written and spoken English. Non-native speakers of English* without a Dutch Bachelor's degree or VWO diploma need one of the following:
      •  TOEFL score of ≥575 (paper based) or ≥90 (internet based)
      •  IELTS score of ≥6.5
      • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), with a mark of C or higher
         
  • A letter of motivation
    • In this letter of motivation you should explain:
      • Which institute you choose
      • Why we should select you for this programme (your expertise and knowledge)
      • Why you want to attend this programme
         
  • An online knowledge test and an online interview may follow before you are admitted to the programme.


* Applicants are considered to be a native speaker of English if they are from Australia, Canada (with exception of Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, UK, USA or South Africa.
