Master of Social Sciences in Comparative Public Policy and Welfare Studies

  • Why are some societies more unequal than others?

  • How can we explain high unemployment and soaring budget deficits?

  • Why do many women participate in the labour market in some countries, and very few in others? Why does health care differ in quality across developed societies?

  • How do older generations treat younger ones in aging societies?

The answers to these questions are all related to public policy and welfare states, and they are essential to the future of societies. The Master in Comparative Public Policy and Welfare Studies teaches the roots of modern welfare states, the manifold effects they have on societies, and the main pressures and challenges they face in an aging, globalizing, migrating and robotizing world.

This two-year Master provides students with a high level of skills and competences that will enable them to contribute to sustainable, equitable and democratically legitimate policy solutions to such challenges. This makes our students attractive candidates to multiple international and national agencies as well as to ministries and other government bodies.
