Finance
Newcastle University Business School
Our Finance MSc provides you with the opportunity to critically analyse the role of finance within international financial systems, notably the management of asset-specific, company and country risk.
You will develop your understanding of the key principles and theories of finance and strengthen your existing IT and research skills, skills that are highly regarded by employers in this highly competitive sector.
Worldwide growth in the financial services sector has increased the demand for students with specialist skills and competencies in finance. This course responds to this market demand and covers emerging trends and issues in global financial markets and services and features compulsory modules in financial theory and corporate policy.
You will analyse the behaviour and develop contemporary empirical understanding of international financial markets, institutions and the strategies of investors in financial markets. You will engage with contemporary debates on important issues related to the operation of financial markets and institutions.
You will have access to state of the art statistical software including Stata, MATLAB, Bloomberg and Thompson Financial’s DataStream. You will use these for your empirical projects in applied econometrics as well as your final dissertation.
Guest lectures on the course complement the study of theoretical frameworks with an analysis of the most recent trends in financial markets and provide an overview of the available opportunities within the financial sector.
The course builds on the School's established research strengths in finance and economics with teaching informed by the Finance and Financial Economics and Macroeconomic Analysis and Applications research groups.
