MSc in International Hospitality Management

The MSc in International Hospitality Management, a 18-month full-time double degree program, was created to help meet the recruitment needs of this evolving industry. You will benefit from the combined expertise of the world-renowned Institut Paul Bocuse, school of hospitality management and gastronomy with the unique entrepreneurial approach of the leading European Business School, emlyon business school. Delivered exclusively in English, the program provides you with a solid foundation in general management as well as specialist knowledge in new venture creation, lifestyle hospitality management, brand design and innovation management.

MSc in International Hospitality Management: Course Content

Semester 1:  Students will complete one of the two tracks (Advanced or accelerated) depending on their educational background and past experience in hospitality


They will also follow common courses in Lyon-Ecully/

  • Acquire the Fundamentals of Management (optional): Non-credit on-line courses allow students with limited formal training in management or with missing elements to be prepared for later applied coursework. These courses are managed by emlyon business school.
  • Solid knowledge in marketing, management, operations management, strategy or finance, is key to successfully navigate the variety of business models that make the global hospitality industry so unique. In addition, the entrepreneurial and innovation management skills that emlyon business school is known to provide will help you distinguish yourself in the eyes of your future employer.
  • Example of courses: Introduction to Financial Accounting & Finance, Economics, Principles of Marketing, Corporate Social Responsibility etc.
  • The online course “Corporate Social Responsibility” is mandatory for all emlyon business school students and should be followed as a regular course during semester 1 in Ecully)
     


The first semester also includes the following mandatory courses:
 

  • French Gastronomy & Culture
  • Innovation Management
  • Project Management
  • Hospitality Entrepreneurship


 
Semester 2: common courses in Paris
 

  • Managing Services Quality
  • Advanced Services Marketing
  • The French Experience, Service Design
  • Finance, The Electronic Marketplace & CRM
  • Luxury Management, Lifestyle Hotel Management
  • Service Experience (optional)

MSc in International Hospitality Management: Admission

Admission is based on the following elements
 

  •  A Bologna compliant bachelor’s degree from a non – French Institution
  • A minimum of an M1 (Bac +4) is required for those who are holding a degree from a French Institution
  • Official Management Aptitude Test Score: GMAT, GRE, TAGE MAGE, CAT (optional)
  • English Proficiency test (optional)

 

We remind you this program is fully delivered in English. Therefore, English full proficiency is required for you to be admitted, follow courses and efficiently interact with the other members of the cohort. For the Admission Process, your English level will be evaluated taking into consideration 3 different fundamentals:     
 

  • Examination of all written and redactional elements within the application file.     
  • The Video Interview     
  • Potential Face to face or Skype interview, if the Admission Board requires it.

MSc in International Hospitality Management: Restaurant Concept Design & Development Project

Students will work on a Restaurant Concept Design & Development Project.
This course provides them with a blueprint for the successful opening of a concept restaurant. The course is delivered in conjunction with Hospitality Entrepreneurship, preparing students for the Concept Design and Development project at the end of the second semester.


From the very start of the program, you are involved in an Entrepreneurial Business Project and create a virtual company from scratch within a team. From managing the entire entrepreneurial process, to turning your idea into a business plan, and reaching out to the business world to get feedback, you develop the entrepreneurial mindset that is key to your future success, regardless of whether you create your own company or work for a firm.

Students will also work on a Hotel Development Project. This interactive immersive project challenges you and your team to develop a hospitality concept that is both innovative and grounded. Guided by experienced industry professionals who provide a schematic framework for project planning and development, you will present a fully functional conceptual model supported by marketing and financial data.
