Materials Science and Technology at University of Tartu

The programme provides knowledge of theoretical principles of materials science, testing and investigation methods and development and design of materials. Students' development projects are done in cooperation with scientific laboratories where they also perform the experimental part of their master’s thesis.

Materials Science and Technology at University of Tartu: Course Content

Materials Science module (30 ECTS):

  • Theoretical Principles of Materials Science
  • Development of Materials: Classes of Materials, Composites, New Materials and Design
  • Testing and Investigation Methods in Materials Science
  • Master's Seminar in Materials Science


Entrepreneurship module (15 ECTS):

  • Technology Entrepreneurship Basic Course
  • Seminar of Entrepreneurship

 

Elective courses (24 ECTS):

  • Estonian for Beginners I, on the Basis of English, Level 0 > A1.1
  • Classes and Technologies of Materials
  • Practical Works in Physics of Materials, Mechanics and Heat etc.

 

Optional courses (6 ECTS)
All courses available at the University of Tartu and other universities
 

Internship (15 ECTS)


Master's thesis (30 ECTS)

Materials Science and Technology at University of Tartu: Career

Graduates can work as specialists developing materials in manufacturing enterprises or research institutions and laboratories. They have knowledge and skills to start and run new small and medium businesses handling with materials. Graduates are able to continue their studies at doctoral level.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in science, technology, or engineering, encompassing at least 45 ECTS in mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science or engineering
  • English language proficiency (TOEFL - 75; IELTS - 5.5)
  • Motivation letter (yields 40% of the final score)
